New Delhi, 5 July 2021: The Indian Journalists Union expresses concern over an FIR lodged by Uttar Pradesh authorities in Shahjahanpur district against three journalists-- News Laundry’s Nidhi Suresh, Bhadas4Media’s Manoj Shukla and its editor Yashwant Singh. The  FIR was a tool to intimidate and harass the journalists for their work and must immediately be dropped, demanded the Union. 

New Delhi, 15 June 2021: Welcoming the release of journalist Ganji Raghu working with web portal ToliVelugu on conditional bail, the IJU demanded that all charges against him be dropped as it was a case of harassment and vendetta. Raghu was arrested by Mattampalli police of Suryapet district of Telangana, after four months of an FIR being lodged against him.

New Delhi, 29 June 2021: The Indian Journalists Union condemns the beating up of journalist Pateshwari Singh, bureau chief of Bharat Connect newspaper and a city reporter for Jan Sandesh Times,in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, allegedly by unidentified men for writing a news report against the State’s MLA. The Union demanded the FIR lodged against unidentified men should also include the name of the MLA and investigation be expedited so that the guilty are brought to book.

New Delhi, 16 June 2021: The Indian Journalists Union condemns the filing of FIR against news website The Wire and three journalists --Rana Ayyub , columnist Washington Post, Saba Naqvi,freelance journalist, and Mohammed Zubair,Co-founder of Alt News by the UP government for sharing a video. The Union demanded immediate withdrawal of the case and that the authorities refrain from targeting journalists, which has become the rule in the largest State of the country.

New Delhi, 13 June 2021: The Indian Journalists Union expresses concern over the passing away of journalist Sulabh Srivastava, working with ABP News TV channel ABP News, a day after he filed complaints to UP Police seeking protection. The Union demanded that an impartial inquiry be conducted into the case.

New Delhi, 1 June 2021: The Indian Journalists Union welcomes the Supreme Court stay on coercive action by the Andhra Pradesh police against two Telugu news channels, TV 5 and ABN Andhrajyoti and more importantly its observation that the sedition law “requires interpretation, particularly in the context of the right of the electronic and print media to communicate news, information… even those that may be critical of the prevailing regime in any part of the nation.” 

New Delhi, 27 May 2021: The Indian Journalists Union welcomes the Supreme Court quashing the sedition case against veteran journalist Vinod Dua for his alleged comments against Prime Minister Modi in his YouTube show last year. At the same time, the Union demanded that authorities stop harassing journalists critical of governments.

New Delhi, 3 May 2021: Observing World Press Freedom Day today, the Indian Journalists Union (IJU), drew urgent attention of Prime Minister Modi and President Kovind that over hundred journalists across the country have lost their lives this past year, 45 alone in the 2nd wave.While journalists are carrying out their duties to ensure a better informed public during this crisis, the IJU demanded it was incumbent on Government to facilitate functioning of the media, fourth pillar of democracy and declare the journalists too as ‘frontline workers’. 

New Delhi/Guwahati, 23 April 2021: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) deeply mourns the demise of veteran journalist and a fierce trade union leader Comrade Santosh Kumar. He was 93 and passed away this morning at his residence in New Delhi. Santosh Kumar was the one of the founder members of the Indian Journalists Union (IJU), the Vice President of All India Newspaper Employees Federation (AINEF) and Vice President of Confederation of Newspaper and News Agency Employees Unions. Besides, he also led many plant unions in several prominent national dailies in the National Capital. 

New Delhi, 17 April, 2021: The Indian Journalists Union shares concerns with its affiliates, the All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) over unfortunate developments in neighbouring  Myanmar. It joins AMWJU to urge to the Manipur government to allow entry of 3 Mizzima journalists to Imphal, who fled their country and are taking shelter in Moreh.

New Delhi, 11 April 2021: The Indian Journalists Union condemns the Hisar police, Haryana for lodging an FIR against a journalist Rajesh Kundu under charges of “cyber terrorism” and “promoting communal disharmony” for his alleged posts over social media platforms. The action is an impingement on his right to freedom of speech and expression as well as an ongoing bid by governments to intimidate and harass the media, said the IJU.
