New Delhi, 18 September 2021: The Indian Journalists Union condemns the high-handedness of the Haryana Police for arresting Dainik Bhaskar Editor Sandeep Sharma and reporter Sunil Brar for a factual error in a news report, which they corrected after their attention was drawn to it. The Union demanded the police stop intimidating journalists by misusing the law.   

New Delhi, 10 September 2021: The Indian Journalists Union condemns the J&K police for searching residences of four journalists in Srinagar and questioning them at the police station, on alleged grounds of their involvement with ‘Kashmirfight Blog’, which incidentally has been blocked by order of Ministry of Electronics and IT. The Union demanded that such intimidation of media in the Valley as well as blocking of sites must be halted so that journalists can do their work without fear of reprisal.

New Delhi, 9 September 2021: The Indian Journalists Union joins its affiliate Tripura Journalists Union  in condemning the violence and ransacking of the office of Pratibadi Kalam,  leading daily in Melarmath locality, Agartala, on Wednesday afternoon by miscreants, in which three journalists were injured. The leadership of the Unions demanded prompt action against those who indulged in the unprecedented violent attack, as attempts to silence media was unacceptable. 

New Delhi 18 August 2021: The Indian Journalists Union condemns the thrashing of photo journalists by a police officer in Srinagar while they were covering a Muharram procession. While the Union welcomed the action taken by the DGP for the ‘undesirable behaviour’ of the concerned officer by shifting him to the police lines, the Union demanded that safety and security of journalists be ensured so that they could carry out their responsibilities.

 

New Delhi, 18 August, 2021: The Indian journalists union has urged the Central government to ensure that India joins the international community in providing emergency visas and safe refuge on humanitarian grounds, to Afghan journalists and media workers, particularly women journalists, as they face grave threat to their safety and security.

The Indian Journalists Union launches a survey as part of its project ‘Change is Key, get Digitalized’ to reinforce its capability to act & respond to the digital world, understand its members’ strategic needs for new skills, gain confidence of younger, digital and women journalists and equip them with requisite new skills. The project is co-partnered with International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and is being undertaken by IJU with its affiliates in four States: Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Tripura.

New Delhi, 10 August 2021: The Indian Journalists Union joins its affiliate the Andhra Pradesh Media Federation in condemning the brutal killing of journalist Chennakeshavalu, of local television news channel EV5, in Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh, allegedly by a suspended police constable and his brother on Sunday night. The unions demand that the killer be brought to justice at the earliest. 

New Delhi, 22 July 2021: The Indian Journalists Union condemns the income tax raids at 30-odd locations of one of the largest Hindi media group, Dainik Bhaskar and another at Uttar Pradesh-based TV news channel Bharat Samachar today, for alleged “tax evasion”. The timing of the raids, specially after the second wave of Covid-19 smacks of sinister design of the authorities to stifle press freedom and intimidate critical media, said the Union. 

New Delhi, 20 July 2021: The Indian Journalists Union expresses grave concern over the surveillance of at least 40 journalists, among 300 others, including Opposition leaders, ministers, constitutional authorities, activists, through hacking of their phones by Israeli Pegasus spyware. The snooping on journalists, is not just a breach of their right to privacy like any other citizen, but worse seriously compromises their sources, amounting to stifling independent and investigative journalism, said the Union. It demanded the government come clean on the issue, order a judicial probe and refrain from yet another form of intimidation of journalists, specially those critical of its governance.

New Delhi, 17 July 2021:The Indian Journalists Union condoles the death of award-winning photo-journalist Danish Siddiqui, while covering a fierce battle between Afghan security forces and Taliban militants in Kandahar province. At the same time, the IJU condemns the killing  and demands that Taliban respect press freedom and ensure safet of journalists who are carrying out their duties.

New Delhi, 15 July 2021: The Indian Journalists Union condemns the high handedness of the Haryana police for obstructing journalists covering protests and demolitions in Khori Gaon in the State and demanded that they be allowed to carry out their duties, as the media is the fourth estate.
