17 December 2019:  The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) demanded stern action against Sunderchand Thakur, the Mumbai Resident Editor of Navbharat Times, who was facing allegations of sexual harassment from Anita Shukla, a journalist in the newspaper.

16 December 2019: Expressing grave concern over internet shutdown in various parts of the country, following protests against the new citizenship bill, the Indian Journalists Union, demands that State governments respect the right of freedom of speech and expression and lift the ban.

1 November 2019: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) expresses serious concern at the revelation of a snowballing scandal of snooping on journalists, activists, lawyers, senior govt officials etc. According to media reports, WhatsApp revealed that it had informed several Indian users this week that they had been targeted by Israeli spyware earlier this year in a hacking spree that included journalists, activists, lawyers and senior government officials.

3 October 2019: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) expressed its grave concern over the cancellation of the registration of the 'Daily Desher Katha' second largest circulated daily in Tripura by the Registrar of Newspapers India (RNI) within hours of issuing fresh registration as there was change of management, leading to its closure. According to reports, the District Magistrate of the West Tripura district has cancelled the declaration issued by the Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Sadar on 1 October, on the same day and advised the RNI to cancel the registration. The RNI which issued the fresh certificate to the new owner cancelled it within hours.

29 October, 2018: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) called upon the Union government to enact a law for the protection of journalists without any further delay, as the demand has been long pending.   The law was critical as the attacks and killings of journalists in the country were menacingly growing. The irony is that in all the cases, the culprits are going scot free, as the report of none other than the Press Council on Safety of journalists has revealed.

28 October 2019: Indian Journalists Union (IJU) expresses serious concern at the increasing requests of the Government of India to Twitter to block accounts, particularly of media organisations in Kashmir. Twitter, which is not bound to accept all the blocking requests, has apparently been bowing to the Indian government’s pressure by blocking more and more twitter accounts.

17 October 2019 : The Indian Journalists Union has expressed grave concern over the Andhra Pradesh government’s threat to all media that it will slap defamation cases if these carry any story against it without concrete evidence. The decision taken at a Cabinet meeting is being viewed by the IJU as draconian and blatant intimidating tactics, which must be withdrawn immediately.

17 October 2019: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) expressed grave concern over the brutal murder of K Satyanarayana, Correspondent of Telugu daily, Andhra Jyothi at Thondangi Mandal in East Godavari district on Tuesday night, after he was returning home from work. Satyanarayana is reported to have been writing against ant-social elements and was earlier attacked a month ago.

17 October 2019: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) condemned the Police attack on journalists in Srinagar when they went to cover the gun-battle between the security forces and the militants in Fateh Kadan area on Wednesday. According to the information available so far, about 20 journalists from the print and electronic media were injured in the incident and many of them were hospitalised in Srinagar. According the eye witness accounts of the journalists present, the police swooped on them when they started taking pictures of the site of the gun-fight and thrashed the photographers and the reporters in the presence of senior officers of the security forces.

16 October 2019: In the case related to press freedom being curtailed in Jammu & Kashmir, the Supreme Court has directed the Government to produce the orders under which it imposed complete clampdown on communications there. The three-member bench was hearing the matter following a rejoinder filed by the State government to the writ petition filed by Kashmir Times Executive Editor Anuradha Bhasin and intervened by the Indian Journalists Union and Foundation for Media Professionals Media, both in support of Press freedom.

7 October, 2019 : On World Day for Decent Work, the Indian Journalists Union expresses grave concern over the rising layoffs in the media sector, which are being justified by owners and managements as an offshoot of the economic slowdown. The trend is across the board in print, television and digital media with labour laws being thrown to the winds and an independent press too becoming a victim.
