Haflong, (Assam) 16 November 2020: With the rest of the country the National Press Day was observed with much enthusiasm and fervour at a programme was organized by Haflong Press Club, Dima Hasao Journalists Union (DHJU), a unit of Journalists Union of Assam, in collaboration with the DI &PRO.
In his keynote speech on the theme “Role of media during COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on media” Nirmal Singh, Secretary, Dima Hasao Journalists Union (DHJU) highlighted the important factors that changed the way of news gathering and its impact on both print and electronic media and lives of media person in adopting the advance and worldwide changing trend of information and news due to covid pandemic
Joint Director, Health Services, Dr Dipali Barman, DI& PRO Purabi Phonglo Bodo, SDI& PRO Punima Hakmaosa attended the programme as Guests of Honour apart from senior journalists and media persons across the district. In their speeches, the speakers highlighted responsibility of media persons to make people aware of various aspects of COVID-19: to prevent and contain the virus spread; improve lives of common people and to erase the irrational myths and fear psychosis from people’s mindset on cremation of COVID-19 dead bodies and spread of Covid through smokes or ashes.
On the other hand, the Indian Red Cross Society, Dima Hasao distributed a hygiene kit of towel, soap, washing powder, gloves and tooth brushes to all journalists as a token of appreciation for their reportage. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by Editor of Haflong Times and Vice President of DHJU L K Hengan.
