Senior Journalist Arun Pratap Singh was elected President of Journalists Union of Uttarakhand (JUU) during its biennial conference held at Dehradun on 23 September, 2018. Umashankar Praveen Mehta was unanimously elected General Secretary, in elections for new Executive once every two years during its biennial sessions.

Chief Guest Finance Minister Prakash Pant highlighted the importance of media in parliamentary democracy and appreciated the media’s role in Uttarakhand. Pant added that media kept the governments on constant vigil which was good for democracy.

Earlier, outgoing General Secretary Girish Pant highlighted the work done by the executive committee during its tenure and stated that the union was constantly working for the welfare of the journalists in the state and it was getting due moral support from its national body, IJU.

Following his election as President, Arun Pratap Singh stated he would work selflessly for the Union and towards the welfare of the journalists in Uttarakhand and would strive to highlight the problems being faced by the journalists before the government. Mehta promised to remain committed towards the union and towards the welfare of the journalists.
