December 2019 : The Indian Journalists union (IJU) has demanded the Central Government to amend the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act 2013 to insert a provision to set up special courts or tribunals to hear appeals of victims for redressal against the decision of Internal Complaints Committees (ICC).

Almost two-thirds of women journalists have been subjected to online abuse according to a new survey published by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls on 25 November.

In the preliminary results of its global survey on online harassment of women journalists, the IFJ found that 64% of female respondents have experienced online abuse. Online harassment takes various forms including death or rape threats, insults, the devaluation of work, sexist

10 October 2018: The Indian Journalists Union (UU) extended full support to women journalists who have chosen to come out and join the #MeToo movement to expose the sexual harassment and misuse of power by those in high positions in the media industry. It called upon the managements of both print and electronic media to conduct a thorough enquiry into the complaints raised against all those in their organisations and take stringent action against them.

Three cheers to Journalists' Union of Assam. Under the leadership of President Geetartha Pathak and General Secretary Dhanjit Kumar Das along with its women members, led by Samin Sultana Ahmed and Shushmita Goswami, the union has set up the Gender Council, the first initiative by any State Union of the Indian Journalists Union (IJU). The GC was constituted at a meeting held at Bluemoon Guest House in Guwahati on April 1 with women members attending from across the State, some having come from as far as 500 km and one even leaving her two­month baby behind. The members were indeed enthusiastic and shared their experiences and the challenges they overcame.

8 March 2017: The Indian Journalists Union, the largest organisation representing working journalists in India, has called upon media managements to develop and implement gender equality policies in their newsroom. Observing the International Women’s Day, with its theme “Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030”, the IJU called upon the media to ensure there is equal access to leading newsroom positions for women, as well as secure fair gender portrayal in news content.
